It’s rainy stormy old day here today what better way to spend it than baking. My daughter loves baking. I ask her if she wants to do some cooking and she bolts off to get out our matching big and little blue bowls. It’s so cute. She loves pouring, mixing and making the dish. I give her the same mini ingredients as me. Most of it ends up in her mouth and on the floor but it is great fun.
Today we made the simple sweet biscuits from the I Quit Sugar book. They’ll be great with a cup of tea tonight. They taste really good but are a bit soft. I hope they harden up a bit. This is the first time of I used or even tasted stevia. Stevia is sweet but not as sweet as sugar. I am not sure yet if it leaves that artificial sweetener after taste as I have hay fever today which is interfering with my taste testing. I think I actually like using dextrose best as my sweetener for baking.
End of week 2 sugar free progress report
This week has gone really well. I keep thinking I am doing this wrong as I am finding it mostly easy. Maybe the next 2 weeks will be harder when I have to give up fruit during those weeks. I am not the biggest fruit eater so I don’t think it will be that hard. This week I have missed ice cream and only because I went shopping with mum and she bought ice cream and ice magic, my all time favourite dessert. Then mum said we could go home and have a bowl. I politely declined. Damn! But I keep reminding myself that when I get to 4 weeks sugar free I can buy a ice cream maker and homemade ice cream and fudge sauce (made with full fat cream) is much better. Take that Ice Magic.
Last night I went to a Enjo party which was absolutely fabulous. I didn’t actually see much of the demonstration but I loved going to the party. It was in a beautiful patio area that felt like a tropical oasis. Nibbles are easy to be sugar free and you can pretty much eat what you like except I did have some sushi which has sugar in it. Then I had a chicken skewer which before I grabbed it I though “Yep that is fine” but as soon as I bit into it I realised of course it is covered in a sauce which the sauce was very sweet. I think the sushi and the chicken are the only two mistakes I have made this week.
One of the great side effects from this is my skin is looking very clear. You beauty, loving that one. I love being able to eat fat and not worry about it. My chops were delicious this week with the fat on and rendered.
Hope you are enjoying the stormy weather and all warm and cuddled up on the lounge as before we know it we’ll be all hot and bothered with summer.
